ART GRANT APPLICATION



Thank you for your interest in applying for a Bass Coast Art Grant.
Bass Coast Festival is a thoughtfully curated music and art festival. Bass Coast takes place July 8 - 11, 2022, outside the city of Merritt, BC on the shared traditional territories of the Nłeʔkepmx and Sylix.

Since the inception of our Art Grant program in 2012 we have invited artists to exhibit at our event through the program and given out over $160,000 in grants. The art exhibit expands over the entire site creating a cohesive artistic experience for attendees. Our goal is to enhance our festival with compelling environments created with the support of the Art Grant funding. We support and showcase visual artists, from virtuosos to those just beginning their professional careers. Please read the application thoroughly before submitting to ensure your art meets the criteria we’re looking for.

We’re seeking the following:

  • innovative three dimensional art 
  • designs that are interactive with the viewer
  • installations that light up at night
  • installations that initiate profound conversation
  • designs that create an environment that encourages viewers to gather

Mandatory Criteria

  • create unique and innovative concepts
  • incorporate natural elements and/or repurposed materials
  • focus on sustainable building materials and methods 
  • include interesting lighting design
  • include a seating area, create an environment 
  • build structurally sound designs, built to the B.C. code
  • use weather resistant materials
  • carry liability insurance on overhead or inherently risky installations

Art may be pre-existing or in the design phase when submitting your application.


IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Bass Coast 2022 Art Grant submissions will consist of 1 round.

ROUND 1: Dec 15th 2021 - Feb 15th 2022

    • Submissions will be reviewed Feb 15th, 2022, successful applicants will be notified by Mar 15, 2022

    Radius Clause: Installations that receive a financial grant of over $3000 may be asked to sign a radius clause and cannot present the same project at any festival within 500km BEFORE the Bass Coast exhibition.

    Art Installations are required to be set up no later than 11:59pm on Thursday, preshow. Art Installation Crews can enter site on Wednesday,  (special requests can be made for earlier entry). Art Installations must be removed by 5 PM, Monday post fest.

    Art Installation Crews are expected to ensure that their installation remains safe and functioning well throughout the entirety of the festival. Bass Coast Festival is not liable for any damaged art installations.

    VERY IMPORTANT INFO

    • No pop up tents, if you use a tent it must be disguised 
    • No rental fencing
    • No tarps, unless disguised
    • Art that does not match the description provided in the application or offer may be asked to be removed from the site and the grant revoked.
