MURAL APPLICATION


Thank you for your interest in applying to create a mural at Bass Coast.

Bass Coast takes place from July 11-14, 2025, in Merritt, BC on the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Nlaka’pamux and Syilx people.

Each year, we invite artists to paint murals in various locations throughout the festival. These murals become part of the Bass Coast permanent collection, which is re-installed each year for all attendees to experience.

Before applying, please review all questions below and our Mural Application Package for important details.

We’re seeking the following:

  1. Experience in creating murals

  2. Art that initiates profound conversation

  3. A strong understanding of composition and colour

  4. A robust portfolio of finished work

  5. Pieces that align with the Bass Coast Collection aesthetic, as determined by our curators

MURAL SUBMISSION EXPECTATIONS

Bass Coast 2025 Mural submissions will consist of 1 round.

ROUND 1: Nov 15, 2024 - Feb 1, 2025

Submissions will be reviewed Feb 1, 2025; successful applicants will be notified by March 15, 2025.

Canvas Size: Mural canvases are standardized at 16ft wide x 8ft high, comprising four 8ft x 4ft plywood panels, available in either black or white as a base for painting.

Exhibit Locations:
Murals will be placed throughout the festival site. Our curation team will decide on the placement of each artist, as well as which artists will headline the 2025 exhibit. These locations are non-negotiable.

Liability:
Bass Coast Festival is not liable for any damaged murals.

For successful applicants, any artwork images submitted may be used on the Bass Coast website, app, and for promotional purposes. However, the Bass Coast Art Director will make the final image selection. The Art Curation team may select an alternate image for the profile if needed.

Accepted file dimensions: 600x600px min. - 1000x1000px max.
Accepted file size: 2MB max.
Aspect Ratio: The image will be cropped square as needed.

Murals are located throughout the festival site. There is only one application category available. Our Curation team will decide which artists will headline the 2025 exhibit and determine the placement of each artist. These locations are non-negotiable.

Bass Coast provides partial support for Mural Artists in the form of both financial funding and tickets with an equivalent value. Mural tickets are provided as an equivalent value and artists are expected to use this value toward their artwork. If these terms are not acceptable, please do not apply.

Category 1: Headliner, located beside a stage

  • 2 Mural Artist tickets, which have an equivalent value of $900

  • $700 for supplies/compensation

  • $500 for supplies/compensation

Collaborative Mural Application *

Collaborative murals receive the same level of partial support as individual murals, based on assignment to either Category 1 or Category 2. Each collaborative project will be assigned to a single category by the Art Curation team, with benefits distributed as outlined.

Bass Coast provides basic lighting for artists to work with and for gallery exhibits at night. It is recommended to bring additional working lights as backup for anyone primarily painting during the night.
